Alay Kapwa (Offering of oneself to one’s neighbor) is the Lenten evangelization and resource mobilization program of the Philippine Catholic Church. Created in 1975 by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines, it is implemented to bring about a society enlivened by the Gospel values of justice, peace, and love for our less fortunate brothers and sisters.
Over the years, it has become the source of Lenten formation modules distributed to all 85 diocesan social action centers. It was also instrumental in establishing the Alay Kapwa Solidarity Fund which enabled social action centers and Caritas Philippines to quickly respond especially to disasters and other emergencies.
In 2021, in trying to respond to the new challenges of evangelization and resource mobilization, Alay Kapwa was rebranded to become more inclusive, vibrant, and current.
The new Alay Kapwa logo still reflects the three works of Caritas Philippines – mercy, development, and justice – with Christ at the center – Caritas Philippines being the heart of the Church of the Poor.
In the same year, the 7 Alay Kapwa Legacy Programs were finalized, after a series of consultations, assessments, and dialogues with the diocesan social action centers.
