Our Background

Caritas Philippines is the humanitarian, development, and advocacy arm of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP).

Since its birth in 1966, it has been at the forefront of implementing programs on poverty alleviation, sustainable agriculture, empowerment of women and children, and ecology protection. Its flagship program is “Alay Kapwa” (Offering of oneself to one’s neighbor), the Lenten evangelization and resource mobilization program of the Philippine Catholic Church. It also implements programs on good governance, peacebuilding, agrarian justice, microfinance, and emergency response.

Our Mission

Inspired by the Gospel and guided by the Catholic Social Teachings (CST), Caritas Philippines commits to:

• Accompany Diocesan Social Action Centers (DSACs) and vulnerable communities

• Facilitate and develop responsive and sustainable social action programs

• Promote collective and unified advocacy action on socio-environmental and eco-political concerns

• Establish and strengthen local resource mobilization

Our Goals

  1. Established a viable and permanent source of funds through the Alay Kapwa expanded fund, income-generating projects, and investments for the delivery of our programs and services to the vulnerable communities in the 85 dioceses.
  2. Enhanced holistic development of national, regional, and diocesan staff for effective and efficient accompaniment and delivery of services to communities.
  3. Evolved as a granting institution for human development needs of dioceses, external organizations, and eventually, developing countries.
