Caritas Philippines, speaking on behalf of the oppressed and victimized by abuse, is deeply disappointed and dismayed by the recent pronouncements of Senator Imee Marcos regarding the ongoing investigations into Apollo Quiboloy and the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC).

We strongly reject any insinuations that the pursuit of justice for alleged victims of human trafficking, sexual abuse, and other criminal activities constitutes “oppression.” To suggest that due process somehow equates to shielding individuals from accountability, especially when facing such serious accusations, is a dangerous and frankly offensive distortion of the legal system.

Caritas Philippines stands by its previous statement urging Mr. Quiboloy to submit himself to the Senate inquiry and any other legitimate investigations. This is not about silencing him or denying him his rights; it is about ensuring that all voices are heard and that the truth prevails.

Senator Marcos’ attempt to frame the Senate inquiry as a politically motivated attack is not only insensitive to the alleged victims’ plight but also undermines the integrity of the entire process. It is crucial to remember that these investigations are not about personalities or political affiliations; they are about upholding the rule of law and ensuring that everyone, regardless of their status or influence, is held accountable for their actions.

Furthermore, insinuations that the timing of the accusations is somehow suspicious only serve to cast doubt on the courage of the victims who have come forward. We urge Senator Marcos and all those who share similar sentiments to refrain from making such insensitive and unsubstantiated claims.

Caritas Philippines reiterates its call to Congress, particularly the Senate, to remain steadfast in its pursuit of truth and justice. We also urge all Filipinos to stand together in upholding the dignity of every human person and ensuring that the scales of justice tip in favor of the vulnerable and the voiceless, not the powerful and the privileged.
