Caritas Philippines, the humanitarian and development arm of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), issued a message of Easter greetings and a call to action this Easter Sunday.

“On this joyous Easter Sunday, Caritas Philippines offers sincere greetings to the Filipino people,” said Bishop Jose Colin Bagaforo, National Director of Caritas Philippines. “As we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ, we are reminded of the enduring power of hope, the triumph of good over evil, and the unwavering love of God.”

“The resurrection embodies the promise of new beginnings,” he stated. “This message resonates deeply as we navigate the ongoing challenges of poverty, natural disasters, and the pandemic’s lingering effects,” the prelate added.

Acknowledging the Filipino spirit of bayanihan (communal unity) and compassion displayed throughout difficult times, Caritas Philippines also expressed gratefulness to those who have generously extended a helping hand to those in need,” Bishop Bagaforo expressed.

Caritas Philippines emphasized the importance of embracing the spirit of Christ through Alay Kapwa (offering of oneself to one’s neighbor).  “Let us continue to reach out to those who are struggling, share our blessings with the less fortunate, and work collaboratively to build a more equitable and compassionate society,” urged Bishop Bagaforo.

Bishop Bagaforo likewise urged Filipinos to go discern more.  “May the gift of Easter enlighten our hearts and minds to die from greed and ‘sins of selfishness’ to a new life of ‘walking with the pains and desperation’ of our people.”

Caritas Philippines offered a message of encouragement to the Filipino people. “We never lost hope,” Bishop Bagaforo declared. “The truth will set us free, and if we unite and hang on to our faith in God, we will be victorious.”

“May the light of Easter illuminate your hearts with renewed faith, unwavering hope, and unwavering love. May this season inspire acts of service and continued dedication to the betterment of our communities,” concluded Bishop Bagaforo. “From all of us at Caritas Philippines, a blessed Easter to you.”
