Caritas Philippines, the social action arm of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), acknowledged law enforcement for securing the surrender of Pastor Apollo Quiboloy, founder of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ, who faces serious charges, including child abuse and human trafficking.

“We commend the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) for their dedication in ensuring this important step toward justice,” said Bishop Jose Colin Bagaforo, president of Caritas Philippines.

However, Caritas Philippines stressed the importance of ensuring there were no secret agreements. “We hope there were no under-the-table deals, particularly with the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG). Transparency is essential, and the process must remain uncompromised,” said Bagaforo.

The organization also emphasized that Quiboloy should not receive special privileges. “The law must apply equally to all. We trust there will be no VIP treatment, and that justice will proceed without favoritism,” Bagaforo added.

Caritas further highlighted the need to prioritize the welfare of the victims and their families. “At the heart of this case are victims who have suffered immensely. Their protection, care, and recovery must be prioritized, along with the support of their families, who carry a heavy burden.”

The organization also called for no media blackout during the legal proceedings. “The public has the right to remain informed throughout this case. We urge authorities to avoid a media blackout to ensure transparency at all stages.”

Caritas Philippines extended prayers for both the victims and Quiboloy’s followers. “We offer prayers for healing, not only for the victims but also for Pastor Quiboloy and his followers, that they may find clarity and strength to face the truth.”

Lastly, the organization called on civil society and the Filipino public to remain vigilant. “We urge everyone to be watchful as the case progresses. It is through collective vigilance that we ensure justice is served and human dignity is protected.”
