Caritas Philippines is participating in the ongoing Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (APMCDRR) 2024 in the Philippines. Over 4,000 delegates from 69 countries have registered for this 5-day event. This year’s cross-cutting themes for APMCDRR are:
- Science, technology, and knowledge
- Multi-stakeholder coordination and collaboration
- Convergence and coherence
- Full private sector engagement
Caritas Philippines has co-organized one of the side events: “Moving from Margins to Mainstream – Progress and Gaps in Effective Inclusive DRR in Asia Pacific.” This event showcases and highlights the role of vulnerable sectors (e.g., women, children, indigenous peoples, persons with disabilities, elders, and youth). It is led by Catholic Relief Services, in collaboration with Caritas Internationalis, Caritas Oceania, and Caritas Asia. Presenters include representatives from Caritas Papua New Guinea, CBM Global Philippines, the National Council on Disability Affairs, and Nepal DRR Management Agency, with a moderator from the International Council of Voluntary Agencies (ICVA).
The conference is providing an excellent opportunity to reconnect and strengthen partnerships with former colleagues and network with other stakeholders.
“Humanitarian work aims to save lives, reduce suffering, and respect human dignity.”
