Caritas Philippines, the humanitarian, development, and advocacy arm of the Catholic Church, is calling for a principled, urgent, and transparent approach to the impeachment process involving Vice President Sara Duterte. The organization emphasizes that this critical moment in the nation’s democratic life must be anchored in truth, justice, and concern for the common good, especially the poor and marginalized.
“In the spirit of our Alay Kapwa legacy of solidarity with the poor and our enduring commitment to justice and peace, Caritas Philippines urges that any move toward the impeachment of the Vice President be approached with utmost integrity and deep respect for the rule of law,” the statement read.
The Church network stressed the urgency of moving the process forward. “The impeachment trial must no longer be delayed. We call on our leaders to act with the highest sense of urgency. Let us be reminded that justice delayed is justice denied,” Caritas Philippines said.
Caritas Philippines reminded all stakeholders that “any legal or political process must uphold truth and due process, not be driven by partisanship or personal gain. The ultimate goal must always be the welfare of the Filipino people, particularly the poor and the voiceless.”
In addition to its moral appeal, Caritas Philippines is calling on the Filipino people to actively participate in mass actions and mobilizations that demand accountability from the Senate leadership and other government institutions. The organization encourages dioceses, parishes, and civil society groups to organize and support activities that promote good governance, transparency, and public participation.
“This is a time for moral courage, for institutions to stand firm in justice, and for citizens to raise their voices in peaceful, prayerful action. We must turn this national crisis into an opportunity for deeper civic engagement and democratic renewal.”
Caritas Philippines concluded with an appeal for unity and discernment: “Let us remain vigilant, discerning, and united in prayer, that this chapter in our nation’s journey may lead us toward genuine peace, good governance, and a just and inclusive society.”
